Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Back in June, James - now in Year 3 - wrote and illustrated a brilliant story book, ‘How to Deal with a Bugly-Whump’. It was so brilliant, he won the 'Young Creators Award Winner 2019' in the ReadingZone Picture Book Competition, a national competition for children aged four to 18 to create their own picture book. His prize was £100 of books for his school awarded by Macmillan Children's Books.
Because he created this book in his own time, outside school, Macmillan agreed that this prize can be given to Laddingford Primary, even though he did not attend this school at the time. They arrived this week and have been shared between the classrooms so that everyone can enjoy them.
James' winning entry can be viewed here. https://www.readingzone.com/newsimages/3409.pdf
Well done James!
If you take a look under 'About Us' > 'School History', you'll find a growing collection of resources that you can use to research the history of the school. This will be used in school to teach local history but it's also a great community resource.
If anyone has anything they'd like to contribute to this archive, please let Mr Ousby know.
I realise I have rather neglected the school website of late, in favour of keeping our social media feeds up to date. Myself and Mrs Moat will be endeavouring to keep the website a bit more current but for all the latest news and photos I would encourage you to follow us on facebook @LaddingfordCEP. Unfortunately our website provider does not yet have the facility to link with facebook, which means updating both is double the work and we think more parents access facebook regularly than the website. The website will continue to be kept up to date with policies and key information.
Thank you for your understanding.
As adults it can often be difficult to find the right words to talk to children about events such as this. We want them to understand but not be frightened, but it is important to talk to children about these issues and allow them to ask questions.
The charity Winston’s Wish have produced some good guidance for parents on talking about the attack https://www.winstonswish.org.uk/responding-children-affected-media-coverage-incident-westminster/
There is also come excellent child friendly advice on the Newsround website about what to do if you’re worried about the news; http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/13865002
As this year's Tiger Troop Programme draws to an end here are some of the highlights in pictures!
The children have had a brilliant time on the programme, I know they have all found parts of it tough but they have shown excellent resilience and some good teamwork skills. Some parent's have commented on what a great experience it has been and how it has positively impacted their child's behaviour at home, teachers have noticed some improved concentration and less 'calling out'. We hope to repeat this programme next academic year.
Dear parents/carers,
Next Thursday 2nd March is World Book Day.
For the day, children can come in dressed as characters from their favourite books – if it’s a film based on a book, we’ll allow that too! Children can bring in a voluntary contribution of £1 – all donations will go to the National Literacy Trust – a great charity that aims to change lives through improving literacy amongst children and adults.
We’re also holding a photo competition called ‘Extreme Reads’ where we want to see the oddest place you can think of reading a book. Take a photo (stay safe!) and make sure we can see the cover of the book you’re reading in it. Bring it in on World Book Day. We’re going to use these photos to create a display in our library, which is in the process of undergoing a bit of a revamp. We want it to be a more welcoming, exciting place that encourages a love of reading and books.
We’ll be planning some fun activities for the day and be having a special assembly to see all your brilliant costumes.
Looking forward to it!
Kind regards,
Mr Ousby
Dear parents/carers/wider families,
To link in with our whole school Local History studies, we have a few ways you can get involved:
1. If you have any resources relevant to the school's history - old photos, documentation - please bring it in. You can either donate it to the school collection or loan us it for a short time so that we can scan and digitise it, adding it to our virtual collection. Kindly contact Mr Ousby if you think you have something that we can use.
2. If you have recollections or stories from your time or family member's time at the school, please arrange an interview with Mr Ousby. He'll find a chance to sit down with you and take copious notes or even record you (just the audio) as long as you feel comfortable with that! If you have family members or know members of the local community who'd enjoy this opportunity to share their memories, we’d love that too. If you're happy for children to sit in on these sessions, we'd be really appreciative as it will help them to realise the history around them in a fuller way and ask some questions of their own. Oral history is especially important in a small village like Laddingford.
3. If you have some free time, we really need some help scanning in our old log books so that we can make them accessible to everyone without risking further damage. This is a mammoth task but if you can spare half an hour or even more, Mr Ousby will set you up with the scanner, make you a cup of tea and give you a biscuit whilst you commit these fragile books to digital eternity! A hugely rewarding task.
By the end of this quarter, it is our aim to have a huge archive of virtual documents, maps, diagrams and photographs available on the school website, including children's work on our school's history. Any way that you can contribute will make a big difference to the quality and scope of this finished project.
Kind regards,
Mr Ousby
We are delighted to announce that Tiger Troop is going to be continuing until Easter. The children that are taking part are gaining such an enormous range of skills from the experience, as well as having a brilliant time!
