Be inspired by nature (write a poem about the world around you)

Many famous poets such as William Wordsworth and John Foster have been inspired to write poems about the flowers, plants and trees they see in the world around them. Writing poetry is an excellent way to use lots of descriptive words (adjectives) to really paint a picture in the readers mind.

Activity

Write your own poem inspired by something in your back garden or that you have seen on a walk. Remember to use lots of adjectives to describe the scene. You may even want to use some similes and expanded noun phrases as well!

Don't forget to start every new sentence on a new line (unless you are writing a concrete poem)!

Challenge

Get your poem ready to be published. Type it up/write it up neatly and decorate it with a drawing of what the poem is about.
