Batik Designers (Make your own Maasai fabric using non-wax Batik)

Maasai women are often seen wearing brightly coloured shawls and kangas (skirts) made by wrapping large pieces of African Batik fabric around them. Batik is a method of dying fabric using wax and dye which is used throughout Africa and Asia. A pattern is marked using hot wax. When it is dry a coloured die is used to colour any fabric not covered by the wax. Finally the wax is melted off the fabric leaving behind white lines.

Activity
Follow the instruction text to make your own piece of Batik fabric using a flour and water paste instead of hot wax.

Challenge

Create your own instruction text for an art and crafts project that you have done.
