Welcome to Pippin Class!
We are a small class of Year one and Reception children taught by Mrs Hitch (Mon-Tue) and Mrs Swaite (Wed-Fri). Miss Bowerman and Mrs Pemble also help us with our learning.
We combine adult led and child-initiated activities to create and exciting and broad curriculum in which we aim to support and extend children's development and well- being. Our aim is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to be creative, inquisitive and explorative whilst taking risks and developing a love for imaginary play. We recognise that the best way to engage young children is to have them play an active role in their own learning and therefore we develop their interests and ideas into the planning of topics.
We teach directed Phonics, Talk for Writing and Maths lessons in the mornings. In the afternoons we have our child-initiated time and Write Dance.
Pippin Class love to find out what their rainbow challenges are going to be each week. Different challenges are planned around the topic using the EYFS objectives, some of these activities are based in our outdoor area.
Once a challenge has been completed the children get to put the corresponding coloured stick into their very own pot and when all the challenges are completed, the children get rewarded for 'making their rainbow'.
At the end of the week we celebrate the children's successes and share personal reflections.
Children in Pippin class take part in Write Dance sessions, a unique programme based on the use of music and dance. Pieces of music are specifically chosen for children to follow and learn specific movements to develop their physical skills including balance, coordination, flexibility and stamina.
We use Tapestry as an online Learning Journey to document children's learning through observation. Parents have access to this so they can view their child's learning in school and they are also able to make comment and add observations of their child in their home environment.
